Cowley County Salvation Army.
The Cowley County Salvation Army held its annual community dinner Saturday, and recognized several people who helped with the bell ringing, and throughout the year. Here are those that were recognized.

City commission update

City Commission work session is today at 5:30 p.m. Here is what is on the agenda: Beautification advisory board good neighbor award. Acceptance of a sculpture in the center of the US 77 Kansas Ave, round-a-bout. Updating ordinance governing selling from automobile. Resolution to participate in natural hazard mitigation with county and school officials. Resolution re-confirming support for the qualifying regional strategic plan and ask the state to reconfirm the county as an enterprise zone. Set town hall meeting for March 25 Cancel public hearing regarding creation of a redevelopment district. Not on the agenda: The library project will probably be discussed.

Woman charged with trying
to pass fake $100 bills

On Monday, March 8,  Officers of the Arkansas City Police Department were investigating the attempted passing of fake one hundred dollar bills at local businesses.  Monday, at about 3 a.m. Officers arrested Maria Paglianti for 5 counts of attempting to make false writing and two counts of making false writing.  The local businesses affected were Reedy Ford, Walmart, Mcdonalds, Jumpstart, Loves Country Store, and Apco East. Three $100.00 bills were confiscated during the investigation and are suspected to be counterfeit.
Maria Paglianti is currently at the Cowley County Jail being held on a $14,000 bond.

Traffic stop leads to Drug Arrest
On 03-08-2010 Officers of the Arkansas City Police Department received a call about a vehicle running three red lights on south Summit Street.  Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Wendy's parking lot.  A strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.  A search revealed approximately 9 grams of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia located in the vehicle.  Christopher Howell, Wichita, and Christopher Casselberry, Wichita, were arrested for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  They are currently at the Cowley County Jail being held on $400.00 bonds.
